Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are at the forefront of advanced materials technology because of their light weight, high strength and toughness, high temperature capabilities, and multiple functionalities. The matrix phase can be made of oxides, nitrides, carbides, hydroxyapatite and other ceramics, while the enhancement phase comes from a variety of materials, including fibers, whiskers, nanotubes and particles. This group’s research covers investigation of compatibility and optimization of composite systems, ceramic powder synthesis, preparation of reinforcement phases, surface modification, processing and performance evaluation of composite materials. CMCs would findapplications in high temperature and wearresistant products, biologicalhard tissues, cutting tools, engine parts,armors, missile radome, energydevices,and electronic components. Research work in this group has been financially supported by 863, NSFC, Ministry of Education, Shandong Provincial Funding and military funding agencies.
