The Key Laboratory for Liquid-Solid Structural Evolution and Processing of Materials is supported by the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Shandong University. The Lab originated from the specialties and labs in metallic materials & heat treatment, casting, plastic forming of metals, welding, etc., which were established in Shandong University of Technology fifty years ago. Starting from 1994, the specialties and labs of ceramics, polymers, and materials chemistry were also founded. In 2000, when the former Shandong University, Shandong Medical University and Shandong University of Technology were merged together, the lab was entitled “Key laboratory of liquid structure and heredity of materials” by Ministry of Education, owing to its major interests on the liquid structure of materials at that time. In 2009, the lab expanded its research scope and began to use its current name.
