报告人简介:HumbertoTerrones carried out his PhD at the University of London (Birkbeck College)under the supervision of Prof. Alan L. Mackay (FRS). In 1991 Humberto Terronesand Alan Mackay were the first in introducing the concept of curvature ingraphite and graphene proposing graphitic structures with negative Gaussiancurvature called Schwarzites. Later, these ideas were implemented to understanddefects in 2-D graphitic systems and were extended to transition metaldichalcogenides. He is a member of theWorld Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in DevelopingCountries (TWAS) and the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He is recipient of the Mexican Academy ofSciences Prize 2000 in Exact Sciences and the UNAM 2000 prize for YoungScientists. He has been invited professor in Belgium (UCL), Brazil (UFC), Japan(Shinshu), ORNL (USA), Penn State University (USA) and Sussex University (UK).He is Rayleigh Endowed Chair professor of physics at Rensselaer PolytechnicInstitute (USA).
